Introduction:

On page 1, we refer to four critical issues. How would you rank those in terms of priority?

On page 4, we say that the six topics are loaded with “landmines.” What is meant by that? What are the “landmines?”

Page 5 says that Americans are more polarized than ever. Discuss that. Is that true? Why?

SECTION ONE – Racial Healing

1: On page 9, we refer to the issue of hypersensitivity when it comes to discussing the racial issue. Is that true? If so, why?

On page 10, at its core, racism is a heart problem, a problem of sin. Discuss that. 

2: On page 11, we discuss the definition of racism. Do you agree with that definition? Disagree? Why?

On page 12, we make the statement from a biblical standpoint that there is only one race, the human race. Discuss that. 

3: What is identity politics?

What is the difference between racial issues, national differences, and cultural differences? 

4: As you read page 22, what feelings do you experience when you consider the horrific abuse of slaves? 

5: Our discussion is primarily about Whites who owned Black slaves, however, when you hear that almost every different race or ethnic group has had slaves themselves, whether Whites, Blacks, Native Americans, Muslims, etc, does that surprise you?

6: On page 26, Richard Allen gives advice why bitterness cannot be allowed. What are your thoughts on that?

On page 28, we state that by a margin of 3 to 1 the signers of the Declaration of Independence were against slavery. Based on what you hear in common conversations, does that surprise you? 

7: Are you surprised when you read the long list on the bottom of page 30 and all of 31 about the African Americans that served in high level leadership? Why do you think that story is not told?

8: According to page 33, what is the number one predictor of major cultural problems and poverty? Why is that?

Look at the statistics in the middle of page 34. What thoughts to you have as you read that?

Read the final few paragraphs of page 36 out loud. How does that strike you?

9: On page 37, what are the four unique functions of the family structure from a biblical perspective? 

10: Read at the bottom of page 39 and top of 40 Senator James Lankford and Senator Tim Scott’s suggestion regarding “Solution Sundays.” Would you be open to doing something like that?

Notice the bottom of page 40, the section on listening, if you are White are you willing to seek out some African Americans to help you understand what it’s like to be Black in our culture?

11: On page 43, we talk about the educational conditions of urban schools. After reading that section, what can be done to help our inner city situations? 

On page 44, after reading about the criminal justice reform that is needed, what might you be able to do to help see changes occur?
